About Carolyn.

Carolyn French is a tenacious writer and environmental advocate specializing in eco-news, social justice and lifestyle storytelling. Over the past year, she has served as an editor and freelance writer for Sun Valley Magazine, crafting content that reflects the vibrant community of her mountain town. With a journalism career that began in high school, Carolyn has contributed to a variety of publications over the past eight years, including Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk and UCSB’s The Bottom Line. Chronicle Books kickstarted her editorial journey, where she explored multiple facets of storytelling, from marketing to PR and publishing. Now, Carolyn’s naturally explorative mind is urging her towards new avenues of storytelling.

Carolyn has developed strong connections with inmates at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center, crafting first-hand narratives from incarcerated men advocating for prison reform. She has attended Santa Barbara city council meetings, translating complex climate mitigation plans into digestible written content. She has profiled Sun Valley’s most prolific artists and celebrated athletes, capturing the remarkable achievements of a small town. Her passion lies in the stories of people and social movements, whether on a local or national scale.

Carolyn earned her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara in 2022, with a minor in Professional Journalism Writing and a certificate in Business and Technology Management. She is now seeking new opportunities in different channels of storytelling that blend her editorial experience with her deep-rooted passion for impactful narratives.
